About Angelo Mathews
Angelo Mathews is one of Sri Lanka’s finest all-rounders and most dependable cricketers of the modern era. Born on June 2, 1987, in Colombo, Mathews has represented the national team with distinction since making his debut in 2008. A calm presence under pressure, he has anchored countless innings and contributed vital overs with the ball.
Mathews was appointed captain across all formats and led Sri Lanka to historic victories, including the 2014 Test series win in England and multiple bilateral ODI series. With over 7,000 ODI runs and more than 100 wickets, he remains one of the most complete cricketers Sri Lanka has produced.
Known for his cool temperament and maturity, Mathews was a pillar of the team during a transitional period. Injuries have interrupted his career, but his resilience and tactical acumen kept him relevant, especially in Test and ODI formats. Wearing jersey number 69, he continues to mentor young players and remains a match-winner in crunch situations.
