About Avishka Fernando
Avishka Fernando is a fearless and flamboyant right-handed opening batsman known for his attacking stroke play and match-winning ability at the top of the order. Born on April 5, 1998, in Wadduwa, Fernando burst onto the scene as a standout performer in Sri Lanka’s U-19 setup. He earned his ODI debut in 2016 but truly found his rhythm during the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.
It was in that World Cup that Fernando announced himself with a spectacular 104 against the West Indies, showcasing his talent on the world stage. Since then, he has become a regular feature in Sri Lanka’s limited-overs squads, particularly in ODIs. His ability to dominate bowlers during the powerplay with aggressive intent has made him a vital weapon in Sri Lanka’s batting lineup.
Avishka has registered multiple centuries in ODIs, including key performances against Pakistan and South Africa. He also played a pivotal role in Sri Lanka’s white-ball success in 2022 and 2023, often giving the team solid starts.
