About Lahiru Thirimanne

Lahiru Thirimanne is a technically sound left-handed batsman who served Sri Lanka predominantly as an opener and top-order batter. Born on August 9, 1989, in Moratuwa, he debuted in 2010 and was part of Sri Lanka’s core team through much of the 2010s. Thirimanne's batting was marked by elegance and resilience. He played key roles in Sri Lanka’s campaigns during the 2011 and 2015 World Cups and was instrumental in the 2014 Asia Cup final, where he scored a match-winning century against Pakistan. He was also the Player of the Series in that tournament. In Test cricket, Thirimanne proved his worth with crucial innings during tough overseas tours. After a brief slump, he returned to the Test side in 2019 and played pivotal innings against Pakistan and South Africa. Though not a regular feature in T20Is, his ODI and Test contributions were vital during transitional phases. Wearing jersey number 72, Thirimanne retired from international cricket in 2023. His calm demeanor and textbook style made him a respected figure in the dressing room and a reliable anchor at the crease.
