About Lasith Malinga

Lasith Malinga, famously known as “Slinga Malinga,” is one of the most iconic fast bowlers in cricket history. Born on August 28, 1983, in Galle, Malinga revolutionized limited-overs bowling with his unique round-arm action, toe-crushing yorkers, and unmatched death-overs expertise. He made his international debut in 2004 and quickly earned a reputation for being a nightmare for batsmen. Malinga made his Test debut in 2004 and his ODI debut in 2004, but it was in T20Is and ODIs where he achieved legendary status. He was the first bowler to take four wickets in four consecutive balls in a World Cup match (against South Africa in 2007). He was also the first to take 100 T20I wickets and remains one of the highest wicket-takers in both T20Is and ODIs. Malinga led Sri Lanka to victory in the 2014 ICC T20 World Cup as captain and was instrumental in the team's 2007 and 2011 World Cup finals appearances. His IPL career with Mumbai Indians was equally illustrious, helping the franchise win multiple titles. Retiring with 546 international wickets, jersey number 99 became synonymous with yorkers, flair, and Sri Lankan pride. He now mentors young bowlers, passing on his vast experience.
