About Lungi Ngidi
Lungi Ngidi, born March 29, 1996, in Durban, is a right-arm fast bowler known for his bounce, accuracy, and knack for breaking partnerships. Emerging through the ranks of South African domestic cricket, Ngidi made a stunning Test debut against India in 2018, claiming 6/39 in the second innings and earning the Man of the Match award.
Ngidi has since become a regular fixture in South Africa’s pace attack across formats. While his pace is slightly below the express level of Rabada and Nortje, his ability to extract bounce and hit hard lengths makes him a genuine threat, especially in home conditions. He has delivered match-winning spells in both ODIs and T20Is, often taking key wickets in the powerplay and middle overs.
His white-ball credentials were further solidified with excellent performances in the 2019 World Cup and various T20 leagues, including the IPL, where he played for Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals. Injuries have occasionally interrupted his progress, but Ngidi remains a vital part of the national setup when fit.
Off the field, Ngidi is well-spoken and involved in social causes, advocating for racial equality and inclusiveness in South African sport. His maturity and strength of character continue to inspire young players across the nation.
