Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, born on October 5, 1983, in Narail, is one of the most inspirational figures in Bangladesh cricket. A right-arm fast bowler and former captain, Mashrafe wore jersey number 2 and is credited with transforming the national team into a competitive force on the global stage. Known for his fighting spirit and leadership, Mashrafe made his ODI debut in 2001 against Zimbabwe. Despite suffering numerous injuries and undergoing over a dozen surgeries, he showed remarkable resilience to continue playing at the highest level. As a bowler, he was known for his deceptive slower balls and ability to lead from the front during pressure moments. Mashrafe captained Bangladesh in two stints, with his second tenure starting in 2014 marking a golden period. Under his leadership, Bangladesh reached the quarter-finals of the 2015 World Cup, made the semi-finals of the 2017 Champions Trophy, and won ODI series against India, Pakistan, and South Africa. His calm demeanor and strategic nous earned him widespread respect. Although he retired from T20Is in 2017 and stepped down from ODI captaincy in 2020, Mashrafe remains a beloved icon in Bangladesh, often referred to as the "Narail Express" for his contributions to the game.
