About Sarfaraz Ahmed
Sarfaraz Ahmed is one of Pakistan’s most experienced wicketkeeper-batsmen and a former captain who led the nation to historic triumphs. Born on May 22, 1987, in Karachi, Sarfaraz rose through the youth ranks, leading Pakistan to victory in the 2006 ICC U-19 World Cup. Known for his quick glove work and gritty batting, he made his international debut in 2007.
Sarfaraz became a mainstay in the team by the mid-2010s and played a vital role in Pakistan’s 2017 ICC Champions Trophy triumph as captain. His leadership style—aggressive, energetic, and inclusive—was credited for reviving Pakistan cricket, particularly in limited-overs formats. His contributions with the bat in pressure situations, including vital knocks in ODIs and T20Is, made him one of the most dependable players of his time.
In Tests, Sarfaraz has scored crucial runs in difficult conditions, including a brilliant comeback century against New Zealand in 2023 after being sidelined. His wicketkeeping has consistently ranked among the best, especially standing up to spinners like Yasir Shah on spinning tracks.
Sarfaraz also captained Quetta Gladiators in the PSL, leading them to their first title in 2019. His sharp cricketing mind and ability to rally players around him make him a respected figure in Pakistan cricket circles.
Though his role has reduced in recent years due to competition from Mohammad Rizwan, Sarfaraz remains a valuable asset with his experience, fitness, and tactical acumen. He is admired for his humble demeanor, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the national cause.
