About Shaheen Shah Afridi
Shaheen Shah Afridi has become the face of Pakistan’s fast bowling resurgence, combining pace, aggression, and tactical intelligence to terrorize batters across all formats. Born on April 6, 2000, in Khyber Agency, Pakistan, Shaheen hails from a cricket-loving family and quickly rose through the ranks due to his raw talent and imposing 6’6” frame. With his ability to swing the ball both ways at high speeds, he is widely regarded as one of the most dangerous new-ball bowlers in world cricket.
Shaheen made his international debut in 2018, and his impact was immediate. His breakout performance came during the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, where he became the youngest player ever to take a five-wicket haul in a World Cup match. His career-defining moment, however, arrived in the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup, when he blew away India’s top order with searing deliveries—setting the tone for Pakistan’s historic 10-wicket victory.
In Test cricket, Shaheen has evolved into a leader of the attack. His spells in overseas conditions—particularly in Australia and the West Indies—demonstrated his growing control, stamina, and skill. He finished as Pakistan’s leading wicket-taker in multiple calendar years and reached the milestone of 100 Test wickets at a young age, earning comparisons to some of the greatest Pakistani fast bowlers.
Shaheen’s performances in franchise cricket have also elevated his reputation globally. As captain of the Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), he led the team to back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023, showcasing not only his skill with the ball but also his leadership potential. His ability to deliver in high-pressure situations makes him an asset in every format.
Off the field, Shaheen is composed and disciplined. In 2023, he married into Pakistan cricket royalty by tying the knot with Ansha Afridi, daughter of former captain Shahid Afridi. Despite his young age, Shaheen has already become a torchbearer for Pakistan’s fast bowling legacy and continues to inspire the next generation of cricketers with his commitment, talent, and humility.
