About Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer is one of India’s most stylish and dependable middle-order batsmen, known for his fearless stroke play and ability to anchor innings in pressure situations. Born on December 6, 1994, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, Iyer's cricketing journey began at the famed Shivaji Park Gymkhana, where he trained under Pravin Amre—who immediately spotted his potential as a future Indian star.
Iyer first came into the spotlight with his stellar performances in domestic cricket, particularly during the 2015–16 Ranji Trophy season where he scored over 1,300 runs for Mumbai, becoming one of the highest scorers in a single Ranji season. His performances earned him a debut for India in a T20I against New Zealand in 2017, followed by his ODI debut later that year.
Known for his composure under pressure and his fluent stroke play against both pace and spin, Iyer cemented his spot in India’s middle order, especially in ODIs. He scored his maiden ODI century against New Zealand in 2020 and has been a consistent performer in white-ball cricket. One of his standout performances came during the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, where he played a crucial role in India reaching the final, including a century in the semifinal against New Zealand.
In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Iyer has been a reliable captain and batsman. He led the Delhi Capitals to their first-ever IPL final in 2020 and now plays for Kolkata Knight Riders, where he continues to be a leader on and off the field.
Despite battling a serious back injury in 2023, which required surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation period, Iyer made a strong comeback to international cricket in 2024, showing immense determination and work ethic.
Off the field, Shreyas is known for his fashion sense, fitness enthusiasm, and love for dancing. He is active on Instagram and Twitter (@shreyas41), where he shares glimpses of his lifestyle and cricketing journey.
Shreyas Iyer’s calm mindset, leadership ability, and talent make him a vital part of India’s middle-order setup across formats.
