About Tamim Iqbal
Tamim Iqbal, born on March 20, 1989, in Chattogram, is one of the finest and most aggressive opening batsmen to emerge from Bangladesh. Wearing jersey number 28, Tamim has been a cornerstone of Bangladesh’s batting order since his international debut in 2007. Renowned for his powerful stroke play, especially through the off-side, Tamim has helped redefine Bangladesh’s approach to top-order batting.
Tamim made an early impact during the 2007 World Cup with a memorable fifty against India, showcasing his fearless mindset. Over the years, he has grown into one of the most consistent run-scorers for Bangladesh across all formats. He holds the record for the most international runs and centuries by a Bangladeshi player and is the first from his country to score centuries in all three formats.
A natural stroke-maker, Tamim has amassed over 14,000 international runs, including over 8,000 in ODIs. His composure and ability to anchor the innings have evolved over time, making him a dependable senior figure in the squad. He served as ODI captain and led Bangladesh to several key series wins, including historic victories over Pakistan and South Africa.
Tamim’s contributions extend beyond the field. His leadership and mentoring of younger players have helped foster a stronger team culture. Though injuries have occasionally hindered his progress, Tamim remains a resilient performer and a vital asset for Bangladesh cricket.
